With engraved half-title in a frame of 18 wood samples, title-page with woodcut ornament, 5 title-pages (dated 1773) in five languages, each with a (different) woodcut branch. With 100 full-page engraved plates showing over 850 wood samples, and a folding addendum table. With half-title and all 100 engraved plates coloured for the publisher. (2) IDEM. Supplement, of vervolg op het werk der houten. Amsterdam, Jan Christiaan Sepp & son, 1795. Large 4to (ca. 28 x 23 cm). Wrapper with printed title. With 6 full-page engraved plates coloured for the publisher. [8] pp. Contemporary tanned sheepskin, marbled endpapers. Rare complete copy, including the supplement, of the first and only edition of a splendid series of hand-coloured engravings of wood samples from trees and shrubs from all over the world. It was by far the most extensive display of wood samples published to that date, and can hardly be equalled by modern publications. Included are woods used for house and ship building, furniture making, tools and equipment and for the production of dyes and medicines. A fine copy of a rare and extraordinary series of coloured engravings of wood samples.
